SpecGuard

SpecGuard automates design reviews from manuals and notes, then applies corrections directly within the chosen engineering software.

SpecGuard is an automated visual agent that does design reviews. It is based on the design rules uploaded either as a pdf or chroma embeddings, previous design notes that flagged design faults. Finally when the user uploads a drawing to review, the agent looks at the drawing visually and matches it with the textual rule descriptions provided in the design rules and examples provided in the design notes. For the hackathon the demo was built for a sheetmetal domain, but this can be extended to multiple domains such as castings, plastics, AEC, PID and systems diagram reviews. Since fortune 500 manufacturing companies have very long iteration cycles in product development, such a tool could shorten product development cycles and the value is clearly tremendous. Based on my experience of 20+ years working with top CAD development companies and fortune 500 manufacturing companies, I would argue that such a product will be perfectly positioned in existing workflows of automotive and manufacturing companies and currently there is no competition for such a product in the market.

Our project starts from previous work experience at a Fortune 500 company where I built a ML algorithm to do DFM reviews. Building the ML algorithm was successful, but difficult to integrate in workflows and integration to CAD software. After the advancement of VLMs , I felt this technology could solve all the challenges I faced while developing the solution and I was successfully able to “vibe-code” an app that can become very generic for developing design review apps across manufacturing, AEC, PID, circuit design etc.
